(James) We’re great! It could always be better though…I mean shit, one of us could win the lottery…ha!
VMU: Could you tell us where you’re from and who is the current line up?
(James) PROPHECY is based in Dallas / Fort Worth, TX. The members are Eric Croson (bass/vocals), Ryan “RYNO” Isbell (vocals), Rick Hawkins II (drums) and me, James Parks II (guitars/vocals)..
VMU: How many releases have you put out and who produced?
(James) We have 8 releases out since 1996. Various labels from throughout the world and my label Prophecy Records have released them.
VMU: How did you guys get together?
(James) We’ve known each other for years now. How they joined PROPHECY was just that the timing was right.
VMU: Was the recordings done digital or analog? (if computer what programs)
(James) The older recordings were analog of course. Our Domain (rel: 7-7-02) was recorded all digitally.
VMU: Could you tell us what gear you use live and in studio? (in detail)
(James) I use…
Guitars: B.C. Rich Warlock NJ series with EMG Select double humbucker pick ups. And an Aria Pro II RR copy.
Guitar Head: Peavey Supreme 160
Cab: Ampeg 4 X 12 / 16ohm
EQ: Sammick 31 band (rack mount)
Effects Pedal: DOD Super Stereo Chorus
Picks: Clayton 1.52mm
Ryan uses...

VMU: Were the recordings fully mastered and where?
(James) The first release, “It Shall Come To Pass” (5-song cassette – rel: March, 1996 on Prophecy Records) was not mastered. Every release afterwards was mastered by Braxton Henry. He was also our engineer for every release from the 2nd release (2-song cassette – rel: March, 1997 on Prophecy Records) to the last, “Our Domain” (rel; July 7th, 2002 on Shindy Productions – Czech Republic).
VMU: I really love your sound! Who are your musical influences?
(James) Thanks Vic! Everyone from Beethoven and Mozart to Black Sabbath, Dying Fetus and Suffocation!
VMU: What do you feel about the mainstream music scene here in the USA and over seas?
(James) Mainstream here is getting heavier through bands such as Slipknot and Korn here more than Europe. Europe is almost completely retro. Like 80’s and 90’s, it’s crazy…ha!
VMU: (optional) What are your comments about the presidential election for 2004?
(James) I don’t vote for the simple reason that I’m not going to be forced to choose between the lesser of the two evils. I have never, and will never trust a politician.
VMU: Do you enjoy live or studio recording?
(James) Studio all the way!
VMU: Do any of you have a home studio?
(James) No, but we have a 4-track we use at practice to record songs as we write.
VMU: What do you express in your lyrics?
(James) Politics, relationships, religion, what’s happening in the world today, etc.
VMU: How do you feel about other bands and artists who express their beliefs musically? (religious or political)
(James) It’s cool. Why not express your feelings through music? After all…music is a form of expression.
VMU: Any advice to the struggling musicians worldwide?
(James) The best advice I can ever give anyone is…NEVER GIVE UP! It’s a long hard road, but once you get there, the rewards are more than worth the struggle.
VMU: What was the worst experience playing live?
(James) When I was about 16 the band I was in at the time was playing a high school graduation party in the middle of no where. Some fucking prick kept un-plugging my power cord in the middle of the songs. So I had to have a friend of mine (Mike Pardue) watch the outlet. Drunk mother fuckers. I felt like splitting his fucking head with my guitar!
VMU: What's the music scene like in your home town?
(James) The scene in D/FW, TX. is cool for the most part. But as with every scene, it could stand some improvement. There are always bands who scream “SUPPORT! SUPPPORT! SUPPORT!” But when it comes time to do that, they sit on their ass and do nothing. And there’s clubs who say they’re going to do this, going to do that…then they close. There are good bands, promoters, supporters, fans and clubs though. All the fuck-offs…kill yourselves now! A certain wanna be singer / has-been radio dj who sucks so much dick to all the “big name” bands/artists and talks so much shit about local bands. Then thinks he can actually sing…it’s the typical leftover 80’s rocker who thinks he can scream into a mic and he’s automatically a vocalist! Yeah, that’s why your wife supports you and you still go out and fuck other fat bitches then try to erase the video footage from someone else’s tape of you and another fat bitch at a party! You’re pathetic. And you give true musicians a bad fuckin’ name. (I’m not knocking 80’s metal either…just this fucker)
VMU: How many times a week do you practice?
(James) 3-4
VMU: What are in the works for the band? (tours or new releases)
(James) The next full length release is “DON’T FUCKIN’ MESS WITH TEXAS” and is coming out 2005! We’ve already got 5 songs written for it with more to come! Titles so far are:
